Ear infections and fluid (otitis media and effusion) are very common problems in children age 6 months to 2 years. Older children are less likely to suffer from chronic ear infections; as they grow and develop, the immune system matures and the Eustachian tube opens allowing air into the middle ear.
Repairing or straightening a deviated septum is a common nasal surgery performed under general anesthesia. A small incision is made inside the nose and the thin plate of cartilage and bone in the center of the nose is repaired. The procedure takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes to complete, and most patients are able to return home within 2.5 to 3 hours.
